The role :
As the Food Safety Manager, based in Auckland, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, factories, and third-party manufacturers to strengthen and elevate our food safety culture. You will champion best-practice standards and guide teams to meet and exceed a2MC's food safety expectations.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading the food safety strategy across The a2 Milk Company. This includes providing expert leadership on food safety requirements for all our products, projects, and installations, and driving programs and continuous improvement initiatives that support our goal of achieving zero food-safety-related defects across our supply chain and partner network.
More specifically, you will :
- Establish and maintain Food Safety standards and compliance requirements across a2MC.
- Develop and implement food safety strategies, programs, and governance frameworks that ensure zero food safety defects.
- Provide technical expertise on food safety requirements for all products and projects.
- Lead the development of pre-HACCP assessments for innovations, renovations, and improvement initiatives to mitigate allergen, chemical, microbiological, nutritional, and physical hazards.
- Support factories and third-party manufacturers (3PMs) in resolving food safety issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain and operations.
- Institutionalise standard routines and pre-requisite programs and verify effective implementation with factories and 3PMs.
- Lead and verify the implementation of the HACCP Plan across all relevant operations.
- Design and deliver training programs to uplift food safety capability across the organisation.
- Analyse results, trends, and insights to develop ongoing improvement plans in food safety performance.
What you will bring :
Broad knowledge of food processing, food safety systems, and current GMPA tertiary qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related discipline is preferred.Expertise in food science, food microbiology, and applied food safety principles.Strong capability with problem-solving tools and structured investigation methods.Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence, guide, and uplift capability across teams.Excellent communication and presentation skills, with strong stakeholder-engagement experience.High attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and external partners.Experience in a food manufacturing environment (mandatory).Experience in infant nutrition or closely regulated nutrition categories (mandatory).Demonstrated experience establishing and leading HACCP studies, and strong working knowledge of Pre-requisite Programs, Zoning, and Pathogen Monitoring.We are committed to enhancing our team members' work-life wellbeing with leading policies and practices on flexible work, parental leave, family care, and family wellbeing.
