Job description

We are currently seeking two new Trustees to strengthen our Board :

Treasure – providing financial stewardship and governance leadership.
Trustee with Restorative Justice / Legal Expertise – guiding strategy through restorative and legal frameworks.

1. Treasurer – Board of Trustees

Role Overview

The Treasurer plays a critical role in ensuring the financial sustainability and integrity of Project Restore NZ. This includes oversight of financial planning, reporting, compliance, and supporting strategic decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities

Governance oversight of income, expenditure, and asset management.

Review and present financial reports to the Board.

Support budgeting and forecasting alongside the CE and finance team.

Ensure compliance with the Trust Deed, policies, and legislation.

Identify and communicate financial risks and opportunities.

Contribute actively to Board meetings, strategy, and fundraising discussions.

Desired Skills & Attributes

Proven experience in financial management, accounting, or treasury functions.

Understanding of nonprofit funding models and financial accountability.

Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate financial information clearly.

Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally appropriate practice.

Collaborative working style with the CE, finance team, and fellow trustees.

Availability of 4–6 hours per month.

2. Trustee with Restorative Justice and / or Legal Expertise

Role Overview

This trustee will bring specialist knowledge of restorative justice and / or legal frameworks to strengthen our governance and strategic decision‑making. You’ll help ensure our strategy and policies reflect best practice in justice and legal standards, and support our kaupapa in line with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Key Responsibilities

Provide governance oversight informed by restorative justice and legal frameworks.

Advise the Board on NZ legal and justice sector policies and compliance.

Offer oversight on contracts, MOUs, and policy matters.

Build and maintain relationships with iwi, justice sector partners, and community groups.

Contribute to strategic discussions and decision‑making.

Actively participate in Board meetings and relevant committees.

Desired Skills & Attributes

Knowledge of restorative justice and / or criminal law, or related legal fields.

Understanding of Te Ao Māori and restorative approaches.

Experience in governance (e.g. NGO, iwi trust, public sector).

Strong communication, relationship, and analytical skills.

Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Availability of 4–6 hours per month.

Commitment (Both Roles)

Commitment : Attend scheduled Board meetings, annual planning sessions, and participate in committees as needed.

Voluntary, unpaid governance roles.
