We’re now looking for a confident, organised, relationship‑savvy Subcontractor Officer to join our Wellington City Council team. If you enjoy building strong working relationships, spotting risks before they bite, and keeping a lot of moving parts under control without breaking a sweat, this could be your next step.

- Makes sure subcontractors are properly onboarded, inducted, and compliant
- Keeps the paperwork tidy including qualifications, insurances, safety docs, and other information
- Builds positive relationships while still upholding high standards
- Monitors performance, follows up issues, and keeps things running smoothly
- Acts as the go‑between for subcontractors, operational teams, the our customer service team, and the Council
- Gets out on site to see what’s really going on and complete audits as required

What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who is curious, organised, and confident engaging with people at all levels. Ideally, you have :
- Experience working with subcontractors, trades, facilities, or commercial operations
- A solid understanding of safe work practices and contractor H&S expectations
- Excellent communication skills and confidence being both warm and firm
- You’re organised, calm under pressure, and known for your ability to coordinate people and information while finding smart, workable solutions
- Strong judgement and the confidence to promote issues early
- A knack for documentation, accuracy, and keeping things tidy behind the scenes
- Experience using business systems including work management tools and the Microsoft suite
If you’ve worked in facilities, construction support, commercial admin, H&S coordination, or a similar environment, you’ll likely hit the ground running.
