Our supply chain is vital for making the Air Force run smoothly and efficiently. As a Logistics Specialist, you’ll help organise, buy, and manage all the equipment we use, keeping us ready for any eventuality. It’s a varied and exciting career, and one of the most important roles in the Air Force.

As a Logistics Specialist, you’ll be responsible for the supply and distribution of military materials, hardware, personnel, and supplies using sophisticated computerised systems. You’ll also assist with the movement by air of New Zealand Defence Force personnel and equipment, from Army’s light armoured vehicles to Air Force helicopters and explosives. During natural disasters, and when the government directs the NZDF to provide Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR), you will play a key role.

You will be trained to operate various vehicles, aircraft loading systems, and logistics supply systems.

Recruitment starts 26 January 2026, apply by 25 August 2025. Must be 18 years old by the time you graduate from recruit course.

Education

  • Three years of secondary school education.

Note : Qualifications may be used to assess trade suitability.

Your training is among the most thorough and advanced in the world. After graduation as a Logistics Specialist, you’ll be contractually obliged to spend another 12 months in the Air Force.

Job on Base

A typical day varies depending on your role. You might be receiving and dispatching freight within NZ or internationally, selecting stock items for aircraft, stocking shelves, driving a forklift to distribute parts, or building pallets for loading aircraft. The role offers a variety of tasks, including supporting HADR operations domestically and internationally.

Job on Deployment

While deployed, you will manage squadron logistics, request parts from NZ, and handle customs paperwork for unserviceable spares. You will work closely with maintenance teams or support missions in a tri-service team.

Upon enlistment, you will undergo basic military training covering organisation, customs, drill, weapon training, first aid, and rescue techniques. You’ll earn a salary during training, with allowances for field, sea, overseas, or operational deployment.

    Starting at $68,860, with potential earnings up to $98,000.
