Job Overview

Seeking a consultant anaesthetist for a general hospital anaesthetic department with a broad scope of anaesthetic practice in the public sector located in a region with an excellent lifestyle, from scenic hiking spots to great schools.

Position Highlights

full time permanent employment contract with a leading public sector healthcare organisation
theatre complex consists of seven operating theatres, but current expansion will make that nine theatres plus use of a theatre at a private hospital.
hospital has a closed 6 bed Level 2 ICU (soon to be expanded to 8 beds) providing a high standard of general intensive care, including complex multi-system support (invasive mechanical ventilation, cardiovascular monitoring and support, renal replacement therapy). It is a mixed unit, admitting medical, surgical, trauma and paediatric patients.
Anaesthetic Department is staffed by 26 specialist anaesthetists, 8 registrars and 6 senior house officers. It currently operates 2 separate on-call rosters for anaesthesia and intensive care.
Option to cover ICU if appropriately qualified
department accredited by CICM (College of Intensive Care Medicine) and the ANZCA (Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists) for Basic and Advanced Training.
40 hour working week plus on call duties

Professional Requirements

Fellowship of the Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia (FANZCA) (or equivalent overseas qualification).

Medical Degree recognised by WHO

Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or be eligible for vocational or provisional vocational registration
