2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESA. Orchard Operations Management
- Plan and execute all orchard activities : pruning, thinning, male pruning, tying down, bud thinning, girdling, shoot selection, pest & disease control, fertigation, irrigation, mowing, and harvest preparation.
- Develop and manage detailed block-wise work plans for 12 months.
- Monitor orchard canopy, vine health, soil moisture, irrigation cycles, and nutrition requirements.
- Ensure crop protection sprays, Psa control, and spray diaries are accurately maintained and compliant.
- Oversee frost protection systems, pumps, irrigation lines, frost fans, and alarms.
B. Labour & Contractor Management
Daily supervision of staff and contractors, ensuring safety, quality of work, and productivity.Manage labour allocation across blocks based on priority.Approve timesheets and ensure accurate job coding per block / KPIN.Conduct toolbox talks, H&S meetings, and task-specific training.Ensure contractors follow GAP, QA, and health & safety requirements.C. Planning, Forecasting & Reporting
Prepare weekly & monthly orchard operation plans.Monitor fruit counts, bud numbers, flowering, and cropping potential.Report orchard KPIs : canopy, vigour, irrigation performance, nutrition, disease pressure, spray coverage, block productivity.Provide yield forecasts, orchard health assessments, and risk reports.Maintain maps, block records, and digital orchard management systems.D. Financial & Resource Management
Manage orchard operating budgets and seasonal cost tracking.Maintain inventory : sprays, fertilisers, tools, equipment, fuel, PPE, and irrigation components.Obtain quotes and manage procurement for operational needs.Work with management to prepare CAPEX budgets (frost fans, irrigation upgrades, tools, machinery, ponds, sheds, fencing).E. Compliance, QA & Documentation
Ensure orchard meets NZ GAP, Global GAP, Zespri GAP, GRASP, and health & safety standards.Complete spray diaries with full details : product, rate, operator, weather, withholding periods.Maintain records for fertigation, soil tests, leaf tests, irrigation logs, contractor compliance.Prepare for Zespri audits, MPI audits, and food safety inspections.F. Train, mentor, and develop orchard supervisors and team leaders.Conduct performance reviews and provide continuous coaching.Build a positive work culture based on safety, respect, and productivity.Resolve conflicts or performance issues quickly and professionally.Job Types : Full-time, Permanent
