Job description

Make a real difference for local tamariki

CAPS Hauraki (Child Abuse Prevention Services) is a kaupapa-driven, multidisciplinary team working alongside whānau to remove barriers so all learners can attend school regularly.

What you’ll do

Build positive, respectful relationships with whānau and school leaders to support consistent attendance.
Identify attendance barriers, co‑design solutions with whānau, and connect them to resources and information.
Apply evidence‑based strategies across tiered levels of support.
Manage a diverse caseload (including home visits) and collaborate with students, staff, whānau, and external agencies.

What you’ll bring

Experienced candidates are encouraged to apply; we’ll also support the right person to grow into the role.

Ability to inspire and motivate rangatahi, with empathy for whānau circumstances.

Excellent organisation and time‑management; confident managing a caseload and meeting deadlines.

Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, with a restorative, relational approach.

Produce high‑quality case notes and reports, and process all documentation accurately and confidentially to tight deadlines.

Sound judgement, initiative and flexibility; comfortable working independently (including home visits).

Proficient with digital tools and attendance / client management systems (email, Word, Excel, databases).

Full New Zealand driver licence (essential).

A good sense of humour and a commitment to being part of a team.

Compliance

This position is a Core Worker and requires a comprehensive safety check, including Police Vetting, under the Children’s Act 2014.
