Job description
  • Work with one of the world’s most recognised lubricant brands – Shell Lubricants.
  • Use your practical experience to solve real-world lubrication challenges.
  • Be part of a passionate, knowledgeable team based in our Christchurch head office.
  • Who we are

TDX is 100% New Zealand owned and operated, with over 40 years of experience supplying and supporting the civil, forestry, construction, mining, and marine industries nationwide. We’re the NZ distributor for Shell Lubricants, Volvo CE, Yanmar CE, and other leading global brands.

We’re proud of our “in it together” approach – when our customers have a problem, we get it sorted.

    The role

As our new Lubricant Technical Advisor, you’ll be the go-to person for product knowledge, application advice, and problem-solving for our nationwide sales team and customers. You’ll also liaise with Shell’s global technical experts and help manage our oil analysis program.

    Your work will involve :

    • Providing technical support and guidance on the right lubricants for different applications.
    • Using your mechanical understanding to troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions.
    • Delivering product education and training to customers and internal teams.
    • Helping customers get the most out of their equipment through correct lubrication practices.
    • Assisting with oil sampling and interpretation to prevent equipment failure.
    • What we’re looking for

    • Practical experience in a trade such as automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance – or equivalent hands-on technical role.
    • Solid understanding of how lubricants are used in engines, gearboxes, hydraulics, and other equipment.
    • Ability to explain technical concepts in plain language to customers and colleagues.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, backed by the confidence to make clear recommendations.
    • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) and willingness to learn our systems. A formal qualification in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field would be a bonus, but what matters most is your practical knowledge, communication skills, and enthusiasm for helping customers keep their equipment running smoothly.
    • Perks & benefits

    • Weekly pay, onsite parking, life insurance, discounted medical insurance.
    • Staff discounts on retail products.
    • Social club events.
    • Full training and career development opportunities in the lubricants field.
    • If you’ve ever thought, “I know machines – now I want to become an expert in what keeps them running,” this is your next step.

Apply now and turn your mechanical skills into a specialist career with Shell Lubricants and TDX.
